Founded In 1971

In January 1971, the late pastor, Dr. Sandy F. Ray, established the Fannie L. Taylor Scholarship Fund (F.L.T.S.F.) in memory of Trustee Fannie L. Taylor. Trustee Taylor was an educator and a great lover of children.

Our mission was then, and remains today, to encourage our young people to pursue their dreams through education and wisdom. For more than 30 years The Fannie L. Taylor Scholarship Fund has provided financial scholarship assistance to college students, largely from the Central Brooklyn community. These students are bright, hardworking and eager to learn, but often lack the financial means to afford an increasingly expensive college education. Through our assistance, we help these students further their educational aspirations.

The membership of Cornerstone Baptist Church provides the primary source of financial support of our Fund. Other sources of funds are generated from special fund raising events, such as concerts and corporate contributions. Our members have consistently over the years served with distinction in their support and encouragement of our young.

On December 9, 2001 at a very special worship service, members of the Fannie L. Taylor Scholarship Fund formally announced the Claudia Matthews Memorial Scholarship Fund. For more than a decade, Claudia served the Fund as our secretary. In that capacity, she did an exemplary job and embodied the good-natured spirit and deep-seated commitment that all who knew her most certainly witnessed. In her honor, we have created the Claudia Matthews Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will be awarded annually to a college student pursuing studies in the arts or humanities-fields of human endeavor that Claudia loved.
