Lawrence E. Aker, III currently serves as Senior Pastor of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York. In 2003, he was elected as the eighth pastor in the church’s history succeeding his spiritual mentor Dr. Harry S. Wright, Sr.

Under his leadership Cornerstone has continued to thrive. Through the use of technology on-line giving has increased stewardship. The installation of plasma screens in the sanctuary has enhanced worship services. His vision to reach more youth has led to the formation of “Friday Nite Fire,” a contemporary weekly Bible Study for youth and young adults. Pastor Aker has also inspired the Women of the Word (WOW) ministry, which seeks to spiritually nurture the women of Cornerstone.

In 2005, an additional service was created to provide parishioners convenience and another style of worship. Pastor Aker has also led the church through extensive renovation to the exterior of the edifice. He has also initiated the Annual Cornerstone Golf Classic held every June. In the near future, the church will break ground to renovate their gymnasium and Community Center.

Reverend Aker was born in Oakland, California and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated cum laude from Howard University with a B.A. in Communications. He holds a Master in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary; a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale University, and is presently a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at Drew University, Madison, New Jersey. Reverend Aker has also been blessed with the opportunity to study Biblical Archaeology at The Holy Land Institute in Jerusalem and has had the opportunity to preach in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Reverend Aker is a family man and resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife and college
sweetheart, Cynthia. They are the proud parents of one son, Lawrence IV, and two daughters, Karina Vivian and Nyla Victoria.
